Vincent T Joachim
Biography

Vincent T Joachim is a Canadian photographer who has a background in photojournalism and multimedia. He graduated from SAIT in 1999 with a Journalism Arts Diploma and graduated from AMTC in 2001 with a Multimedia Diploma.

Vincent’s parents immigrated from Trinidad to Calgary Alberta, Canada, where he was born in 1977. He grew up in a large family and credits his imagination to his upbringing. All of his siblings are involved in the arts and have their own unique talent.

Recognized as an exceptional artist, Vincent was nominated to meet Michaëlle Jean, the Governor General of Canada in January 2007. His work has appeared in numerous publications such as Time magazine, Elle magazine, Flare magazine, SAIT Alumni magazine, Tanning Depot Product Guide, The Calgary Herald, and the Millennium Photo Project.

Vincent created “the Pursuit art gallery,” a non profit organization designed to empower youth by teaching them different art forms such as photography. In February 2008, he taught photography to a group of youth in Gonzales, Trinidad. The successful project has yielded a traveling gallery show and a book with the youths work in it.

In August 2008, Vincent worked with First Nation youth on Morley Reserve teaching photography and video to talented youth. He plans to continue his work on the reserve to teach and inspire future leaders.

Vincent continues to work with the youth through the City of Calgary on a project called "Hope Art" that focuses on photography in the N.E and S.E section of the city. The amazing project gives Vincent the opportunity to work with ethnically diverse youth in 4 different schools.

Vincent is currently working on several photo projects that consistently keep him on a global trot. His past projects have taken him to San Francisco, New York, Trinidad & Tobago, and Ecuador just to name a few. His next 2 big projects will take him on a coast to coast voyage across Canada and a trek through Africa.

Vincent also likes to use his talents in other outlets such as design, working with the youth and writing movie scripts. One of Vincent’s life goals is to travel to every continent in the world and take pictures. (5 to go!) He also wants to enter the Guinness book of world records for a photo project he plans to reveal in 2009.

Vincent’s unique style and art of story telling makes his photography unforgettable.

Artist Statement

I love to tell stories and capture God’s beauty through my photography. I work with a digital Canon SLR camera, a Mac computer and Adobe Photoshop as my main tools. If you give me a plane ticket, I will go to any destination in the world. I am really inspired when I travel and see cultural diversity.

In the majority of my work, I try to keep the values of a photojournalist by not manipulating my photographs to create a false scene and only enhancing colors within their natural spectrum.

I like to challenge myself by trying to photograph different subject matter. I enjoy capturing landscapes, urban scenery, sports, culture, color, reflections, night photography, hip-hop music, travel, waterscapes, clouds, and any diverse story telling subjects.

My style is a fusion of photojournalism and multimedia with my faith reflecting in my work.
